The Canvas Exam Prep Checklist: 3 Weeks to Exam Day

A three-week checklist for Canvas exams, covering what to gather, how to revise with AI, timed practice, LockDown Browser setup and exam-day steps.

A Canvas final exam combines everything: content from the whole term, a strict time limit and sometimes LockDown Browser or proctoring. This checklist breaks preparation into manageable steps.

Three weeks before

  • Confirm the details: date, time window, time limit, question types, allowed materials, Classic or New Quizzes.
  • Gather your material: modules, notes, past quizzes and their results.
  • Build a topic checklist from the syllabus, with AI's help if useful.
  • Rate each topic from 1 to 5. Weak topics get most of your time.

Two weeks before

One week before

  • Take at least one full timed practice exam with no help.
  • Sort mistakes into "did not know", "misread" and "time".
  • Fix each category.
  • Technical setup: install and test LockDown Browser if required, check your webcam and microphone for proctoring, and test your connection.

The day before

  • Light review of your mistakes list only.
  • Prepare your space: quiet room, clear desk, charger, ID.
  • Sleep. Memory consolidates overnight.

Exam day

  • Log in early and read all instructions.
  • Note the availability end time and time limit.
  • Calculate your pace per question. See Canvas quiz time management.
  • Flag and return to hard questions if navigation allows.
  • Submit before the timer ends.
