Can You Retake a Google Forms Quiz? How Responses and Edits Work
Says you've already responded? Here is when you can retake or edit a Google Forms quiz, what your teacher controls and the right way to ask for another attempt.
Made a mistake, submitted too early or want another try? Whether you can retake a Google Forms quiz depends on three settings your teacher controls.
Setting 1: Limit to 1 response
If Limit to 1 response is on, the form requires sign-in and accepts only one submission per Google account. When you open it again, you see "You've already responded". There is no legitimate way around this as a student; only the teacher can change it.
Setting 2: Allow response editing
If the teacher enabled Allow response editing, you will see an Edit your response link on the confirmation page (and in your receipt email, if receipts are on). You can reopen your response, change answers and resubmit. For quizzes, many teachers keep this off so answers cannot be changed after correct answers are released.
Setting 3: No limit at all
If neither setting is on, you can simply open the form again and submit another response. Your teacher will see all your submissions with their timestamps. Each teacher decides which one counts, so check before you submit again.
How to ask for another attempt
If you submitted by accident or had a technical problem, write to your teacher:
- Which quiz and when you submitted.
- What went wrong, with a screenshot if possible.
- What you would like: to edit, to resubmit or to have one answer reviewed.
Short, honest messages get the best response.
Practising with retakes
If you want to retake a quiz for practice, you have options even when the form is limited:
- Copy the questions into your notes after the quiz (if your teacher allows it) and test yourself later.
- Build your own practice version. See create your own practice quiz in Google Forms.
- Ask your teacher if there is a practice version.
On practice forms that allow multiple responses, you can check your answers on the page with TrustStudy after answering each question.

Can I submit a Google Forms quiz twice?
Only if the form does not limit responses to one. If it does, Google blocks a second response from the same account and shows "You've already responded".
Can I change my answers after submitting a Google Form?
Only if the teacher enabled "Allow response editing". In that case, an "Edit your response" link appears after you submit.
If I submit twice, which response counts?
Teachers see every response with its timestamp. Many use the first one, some the highest or the last. Ask your teacher before submitting again.
