Google Classroom Quiz Assignments: How They Work with Google Forms
How Google Classroom quiz assignments work with Google Forms, from opening the quiz and locked mode to marking as done, grades and private comments.
Many teachers assign Google Forms quizzes through Google Classroom. The combination adds a few extra steps and options compared with a plain form. Here is how it works from the student side.
How a quiz assignment looks
In Classroom, a quiz assignment has a title, instructions, a due date, points and an attached Google Form. Open the assignment, read the instructions and click the form to start.
Turning in
When you submit the form, Classroom often detects it and marks the assignment as turned in. If the assignment still says "Assigned", click Mark as done or Turn in. Otherwise your teacher may see it as missing.
Locked mode in Classroom
When creating a quiz assignment, teachers can turn on locked mode for school-managed Chromebooks. The quiz then opens full screen and blocks other tabs, apps and extensions until you submit. See Google Forms locked mode explained.
Grade import and returned work
Teachers can import scores from the form into Classroom. Grades appear in your assignment once the teacher returns them. Private comments, visible only to you and your teacher, can explain your score or answer questions.
Using private comments well
Private comments are a great way to ask about a mistake:
- "Could you explain why the answer to question 4 is B?"
- "I think my short answer for question 7 means the same thing as the key. Could you take a look?"
Teachers usually answer quickly because the context is right there.
Due dates and late work
Classroom marks work submitted after the due date as late. Some teachers still accept it, others close the form. Plan to finish early, especially for quizzes with timers or closing times. See does Google Forms have a timer?.
Studying with Classroom
Classroom keeps all your past quizzes in one place. Use them as revision:
- Open each returned quiz and review your results.
- Write down every mistake and its correction.
- Test yourself again a few days later with AI-generated questions.
For practice quizzes posted in Classroom, you can check your answers right on the form with TrustStudy after committing to your own.
