Is TrustStudy Safe? Privacy, Permissions and Honest Answers
An honest look at what TrustStudy can access, what it sends and when, how sign-in and payments work, and what it cannot do, so you can decide for yourself.
Any browser extension you install deserves scrutiny, especially one that reads the pages you study on. This article explains, as plainly as possible, how TrustStudy works, what it can access and what it does with your data.
What the extension needs and why
When you install TrustStudy, Chrome lists its permissions. Here is what each one is for:
- Read and change data on websites: needed so the shortcuts (Alt + X, Alt + C) and Double-click mode work on whatever page you are studying, and so the answer note can appear on the page.
- Tabs and active tab: to know which tab you triggered it from and, in Screenshot mode, to capture the visible tab.
- Storage: to remember your settings, such as your chosen model and shortcuts.
- Identity: to let you sign in with Google.
When it sends anything
The extension does not send pages in the background. Content is only read and sent when you trigger it:
- Select mode: only the text you highlighted.
- Text mode: the visible text of the page.
- Screenshot mode: an image of the visible tab.
- Double-click mode: only the block around the question you double-clicked.
That content goes to TrustStudy's server, which checks your credits and forwards the question to the AI model you selected. The answer comes back and appears as a small note on the page.
Sign-in and payments
You sign in with Google so your credits follow your account. Paid plans are handled by Stripe, a payment processor. TrustStudy does not store your card details.
What TrustStudy cannot do
- It cannot see your Moodle password or log in for you.
- It cannot change your grades or anything on Moodle's server.
- It does not run inside locked browsers like Safe Exam Browser.
- It does not hide anything from your school. Moodle logs, quiz timing and proctoring work independently of your browser extensions.
Accuracy
TrustStudy uses AI models that are usually accurate on common topics but can make mistakes, especially on course-specific questions. Treat answers as a second opinion and check them against your notes when they disagree with you.
Is it safe to use for school?
Technically, it is a normal Chrome Web Store extension with a limited purpose. Whether it is appropriate depends on where you use it.
How to judge any study extension
Use these questions for TrustStudy or any alternative:
- Does it say clearly what it sends and when?
- Does it only act when you trigger it?
- Is pricing clear, with no hidden subscriptions?
- Is it published on the Chrome Web Store with reviews?

Install extensionFrequently asked questions
Does TrustStudy read every page I visit?
The extension is loaded on web pages so the shortcuts work anywhere, but it only reads and sends page content when you trigger it, for example by pressing Alt + X or double-clicking in Double-click mode.
What data does TrustStudy send?
When you trigger an answer, it sends the question text (or a screenshot in Screenshot mode) to its server, which forwards it to the AI model. It also uses your Google sign-in to identify your account and credits.
Can my teacher see that I use TrustStudy?
Moodle does not see your installed extensions. But your teacher sees your quiz logs and answers as usual, and your school's rules on AI still apply. Only use it where AI is allowed.
