Google Forms Not Submitting? 10 Fixes That Work

Stuck on a Google Form that will not submit? Here are ten fixes for required questions, sign-in errors, closed forms, file uploads and browser problems.

Nothing is more stressful than a quiz that will not submit, especially near a deadline. Here are ten fixes, in the order most likely to help.

1. Look for a red required question

Forms will not submit if a required question is empty. Scroll through every section looking for a red message saying "This is a required question". Grids count too: every required row must be answered.

2. Check answer validation

Some questions require a specific format, like a number, an email or a minimum length. If your answer does not match, a red error appears under the question. Read it and adjust.

3. Check every section

In multi-section forms, an error may be in a previous section. Use the form's Back button to check, not your browser's back arrow.

4. Sign in with the right account

If the form is restricted to your school, a personal Google account will be refused. Switch accounts using your profile picture in the top-right corner. See Google Forms sign-in required explained.

5. Check whether the form is closed

"This form is no longer accepting responses" means it is closed. Only your teacher can reopen it.

6. Fix file upload problems

File upload questions require sign-in and may restrict file types and sizes. Check the allowed types (like PDF or image) and the maximum size shown under the question.

7. Refresh carefully

If the Submit button does nothing, your connection may have dropped. Before refreshing, copy your longer answers into a document, because refreshing can clear unsaved answers on some forms.

8. Try another browser or a private window

Extensions or a corrupted cache can interfere. Try an incognito window or another browser, signed into the right account.

9. Check your connection

Switch from Wi-Fi to a phone hotspot or move closer to the router, then submit again.

10. Contact your teacher

If nothing works, email your teacher with screenshots of the error, the time and your answers if possible. Most teachers will accept a late or alternative submission when there is clear evidence of a technical problem.

Prevent it next time

  • Start early, not five minutes before the deadline.
  • Sign in with your school account before opening the form.
  • Write long answers in a document first, then paste them.

What does "This form is no longer accepting responses" mean?

The teacher has closed the form, either manually or with an automatic closing time. Contact your teacher if you believe you should still be able to submit.

How do I know if my Google Form was submitted?

You will see a confirmation page, often "Your response has been recorded". If the form sends receipts, you will also receive an email copy.
