Plan Your Study Week in Canvas: Calendar, To Do and Modules
Use the Canvas calendar, To Do list, modules and notifications to plan your week, never miss a quiz and spread study sessions where they help most.
Canvas has everything you need to plan your week, but most students only open it when something is due. A little planning turns Canvas into a study planner that keeps you ahead.
The Calendar
The Calendar shows assignments, quizzes and events from all your courses. Each course has its own colour. You can:
- Switch between week, month and agenda views.
- Hide courses to focus on one at a time.
- Add your own events, like study sessions.
The To Do list
On the Dashboard, the To Do list shows upcoming assignments and quizzes. In list view, the Dashboard groups items by date. Check it at the start of each day.
Modules and requirements
Modules organise content week by week. Teachers can add requirements (view a page, submit an assignment, score at least a certain mark) and prerequisites that lock later modules. If a quiz is locked, check which requirement you have not completed yet.
Notifications
In Account > Notifications, choose alerts for due dates, announcements and grades. Use the Canvas Student app for push notifications so you never miss a change.
Building study sessions around quizzes
For each quiz on your calendar, add three short study sessions:
- Right after the lesson: summarise from memory and generate a few practice questions with AI.
- Midweek: answer a mixed set of practice questions without notes.
- Day before: do the practice quiz if there is one and review mistakes.
Spacing sessions this way is one of the most reliable ways to remember more. See how to study for Canvas quizzes with AI.
Use AI as a planning assistant
Paste the week's deadlines into an AI chat with your real availability and ask for a realistic plan with short sessions. Adjust it, then add the sessions to your Canvas calendar.
When you fall behind
It happens. Prioritise by due date and weight, and message your teacher early if you need more time. Early, honest requests are often accepted; last-minute excuses rarely are.
