How to Work Through Moodle Practice Quizzes with AI

Practice quizzes are where AI helps the most. Here is a step-by-step method to work through Moodle practice quizzes with AI and actually remember the answers.

Practice quizzes are the most underrated part of any Moodle course. They show you the exact format, difficulty and style your teacher uses, and they cost you nothing to get wrong. Combined with AI, they become the fastest way to learn a topic. Here is a method that makes every practice quiz count.

Step 1: Take it cold

Start the practice quiz without opening your notes. This first pass shows what you actually know, not what you can look up. Answer every question, even if you are guessing, and mark guesses with Moodle's flag feature so you remember which answers were uncertain.

Step 2: Check each answer, one at a time

Now go back through the questions. For each one, commit to your answer, then check it. You can do this in two ways:

  • On the review page after submitting, if your teacher shows correct answers.
  • Directly on the page with an AI tool. With TrustStudy, highlight the question and press Alt + X. The answer appears as a short note like 3 : b in the corner. Press Alt + C to hide it.

If you use the Double-click mode, you can double-click a question block and TrustStudy reads only that question. On a practice quiz, it can be a quick way to see which choice the AI picks so you can compare it with yours.

Step 3: Explain every mistake

For each question you got wrong, write one sentence explaining why the correct answer is right. If you cannot, ask an AI to explain it, then rewrite the explanation in your own words. This step is what turns a practice quiz into learning.

Step 4: Generate similar questions

Ask an AI for three new questions that test the same concept as each mistake. Answer them a day later. If you get them right, the gap is closed. If not, go back to the lecture material.

Step 5: Retake after a break

If the practice quiz allows multiple attempts, retake it after a day or two. The questions may be shuffled or drawn randomly from a question bank, which is even better, because you cannot rely on remembering positions.

Which input mode to use

TrustStudy has several ways to read a question, and each suits different Moodle questions:

  • Select: highlight just the question. Best for most multiple-choice and true/false questions.
  • Text: reads the visible page text. Good for simple pages with one question.
  • Screenshot: lets the AI see images and diagrams. Best for drag and drop onto image, graphs and formulas.
  • Double-click: double-click a question to send only that block.

Practice is practice, graded is graded

Make it a weekly habit

One practice quiz per week, done properly with this method, is worth more than hours of re-reading. Pair it with the routine in our Moodle quiz prep guide and you will see the difference within a few weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Is it okay to use AI on Moodle practice quizzes?

Practice quizzes are meant for learning, so using AI to check answers and understand mistakes is usually fine. If a practice quiz counts toward your grade, check your teacher's rules first.

How do I know if a Moodle quiz is a practice quiz?

Practice quizzes are usually labelled as such, have a grade of zero or are excluded from the gradebook. If in doubt, check the course grades page or ask your teacher.

How can I check my answer without leaving Moodle?

A browser extension like TrustStudy lets you highlight a question and press Alt + X to see the answer in a small note on the same page.
